So, how is it that someone comes to collect, er, own over 100+ exercise DVDs? While contributing factors include needing variety, staying motivated, or staving off exercise plateaus, for me it is about the thrill of the hunt.
Few things can compare to the thrill of a great bargain. Your adrenaline is pumping, palms sweating, hands trembling as they clutch a DVD, slashed to mere dollars, resistance is futile. Saving five, ten, or sometimes twenty dollars on a purchase equates to five, ten or twenty dollars worth of future DVD purchases. Patience, taking the initiative and knowing where to look are the traits of a good bargain hunter.
Most of my bargain finds come to me courtesy of the Bargain Watch at Video Fitness. Other sources of great exercise bargains include various other fitness and weight loss forums. The advent of social marketing has also contributed in the search of huge savings on excellent workouts. I look forward to sharing great bargain finds with you as I hear about them.
Best Purchase: Urban Rebounder, which usually retails for $89+, slashed down to $12.99 at Kohl’s this past January.
Zaniest Purchase: The purchase itself wasn’t crazy, my actions, maybe a little. Ross Dress for Less is known for having tremendous bargains, unfortunately there are none in the Chicago area. I sent my sister, who was living in Colorado at the time, to purchase several 4-packs of DVDs priced at only $5.00 dollars that normally retail for $20. She is now helping savvy moms save money at her blog http://blog.yourathomeassistant.com/
Worst Purchase: There’s no such thing as a worst purchase. Well, actually, there probably is. I just have been lucky enough not to have purchased any…yet.

Wow you've a lot of fitness dvds!! I think that's great, looking forward to finding out what your all time favourite fitness dvd is. Think both of Jackie Warner's dvds would be in my top 5, all with Cindy Whitmarsh's 10 days to a better body and some of Rebekah's and Alison from the Firm dvds.
Have tried a rebounder in the gym, would love to have one at home!
Hi Susan,
My favorites by far are Cathe Friedrich DVDs - her Intensity Series and Body Blast series specifically. I just did Cindy Whitmarsh's 10 day workout yesterday - upper body, I did the lower body workout on Monday. Tonight I will most likely be doing Jillian Michaels Yoga meltdown. I am in the P90X recovery week so I try to incorporate some of my DVDs that I have been missing out on.

Hi Maria,
Would you recommend Jillian's yoga dvd? I have her other dvds and I like them, I especially like her burn fat, boost metabolism dvd. Thanks for a great blog. I think I could talk fitness all day long!

Hi Susan,
Thank you for the encouraging comment - I could talk fitness all day long too!! I have done JM Yoga Level 1 so far - I am doing Level 2 tonight. I really like this workout. I am not a big fan of yoga but I enjoy this workout, probably because it isn't very yoga-esque. It is more of a bodyweight workout. While she does do Yoga poses, she does what she calls "repping it out" before she actually holds the pose and maintains it for several seconds. I have all of JM's Biggest Winner Workouts, BFBM, NMTZ, 30DS and YM. The last four are my favorite of hers. Hope this helps.

Hi Maria,
To chime in on JM, I recently purchased her Yoga dvd & enjoyed it. Even with yoga, she kicked my butt.
I love a good bargain. On a trip to the grocery store they had exercise dvds on sale for $2. You can guess I grabbed quite a few. Two were Michelle Dzois (so-so) and the other was Jari Love (really liked her workout). When you see a fitness bargain your heart races just like when you're doing plyometrics. Hahahaha.
Debra
Thanks Maria and Debra,
I'll put Jillian's yoga on my wish list.
